Jo Gabriele Sheppard works in a studio in London and lives near the south coast.

Drawing on the significance of connecting environment with individual and collective interests and using processes similar to an archaeologist inspired by haptic feedback. The consciousness of sourcing materials generates a process of making that shifts between the three-dimensional and two-dimensional. Diverse landscapes emerge from terrestrial and mythological viewpoints, governed by a dreamlike logic. Building layers of transformation through contrasting methods and materials, such as industrial metals with clay and jute, or energetic brush marks with pools of colour.

Overlaps and loose associations generated by the materials and processes lead to an extensity that can be read as a collection of ecological interests that link internal and external worlds. Surprising conflations arise, evoking history and ancient technologies, contemporary and ancient ecologies. Jo has participated in group shows in London and Brighton, and previously worked as a draughtsperson and a botanical watercolour artist for natural skin care ranges.
